Privacy Policy

Your data, plainly explained

Forq turns a photo of a paper menu into a clean, app-style digital menu — with dish photos and calorie estimates. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible.

The short version. We don't sell your data. We don't show ads. The menu photos you take are sent to our service only to recognize the menu, and we don't use them to identify you. You can use Forq without creating an account.

Who we are

Forq is an independent app developed by Aleksei Artemev (“we”, “us”, “Forq”). If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at forq@appto.you.

Information we process

Menu photos you capture

When you photograph a paper menu, the image is sent to our backend, which uses a third-party AI service (Google Gemini) to read the text and structure it into a digital menu. These photos are used solely to produce your menu. We do not associate them with your identity, and we do not use them to build a profile of you.

Dish photos

To show a photo for a dish, Forq requests an image from our service based on the dish name. Generated dish images may be cached on our servers (keyed by the dish name, not by you) so the app loads faster for everyone.

Subscriptions & purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through your App Store account — we never see or store your payment details. We use Apphud, a subscription-management provider, to validate your subscription status and manage entitlements. Apphud receives a non-identifying app-install identifier and your subscription state.

Device & diagnostic data

Our subscription provider may process limited technical data (such as device type, OS version, app version, country, and an anonymous install identifier) to operate purchases and basic analytics. This is not linked to your name or email.

Push notification token

If you enable notifications, Apple issues a push token for your device. We pass this token to our subscription provider so we can send you relevant messages (for example, about your subscription). You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.

Data stored on your device

Your scanned menus, favorites, history, and food preferences are stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, this data is synchronized through your own private iCloud account using Apple CloudKit — we cannot access the contents of your iCloud.

How we use your information

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your menu photos for advertising.

Third-party services

Forq relies on a small number of trusted providers, each governed by its own privacy policy:

Data retention

On-device data stays until you delete it or uninstall the app. Menu images sent for recognition are retained only as long as needed to process them and are not tied to your identity. Cached dish images are stored by dish name to serve all users efficiently.

Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. We honor these requests where applicable.

Children

Forq is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll revise the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes will be reflected in the app.
